Which phones work with TagSquad tags?
Every TagSquad tag has two ways in: tap it (NFC) or scan its QR code. Finders don't need an app. If a phone can't tap, the QR code always works, so a tag is never out of reach.
At a glance
Tap works on iPhone XR/XS and newer, and on most Android phones since around 2015. Anything else can scan the QR code with its camera. The QR code is engraved into the tag, not printed, so it keeps scanning even if the surface gets scuffed.
iPhone
- iPhone XR, XS and every newer model read tags automatically. Unlock the phone, hold the top of it to the tag and tap the banner that appears.
- Older iPhones can't tap a tag. Scan the QR code with the Camera app instead.
Android
- Most Android phones since around 2015 have NFC. Some budget models leave it out.
- NFC must be switched on: open Settings, search for NFC and turn it on. The screen needs to be unlocked.
- The NFC antenna is usually near the middle or top of the back. Slide the phone slowly over the tag.
- No NFC? Open the Camera app (or Google Lens) and scan the QR code.
Tablets and watches
Tablets and smartwatches vary a lot, and many can't tap a tag. If yours can't, or you're not sure, scan the QR code with its camera or use a phone instead.
Check your phone
- Android: search for "NFC" in Settings. If it's there, your phone has it.
- iPhone: iPhone XR, XS and newer all work. To see which model you have, open Settings, General, About.
- Not sure? It doesn't matter for finders: the QR code works on any smartphone.
A thick case, a metal plate or a wallet card behind the phone can block NFC. Take the case off and try again, or scan the QR code.
